Salad Days

This was the school play twice: in March 1967 and also in 1973 (as remembered by John and Huw). The first one was in my time; I didn't appear in the play, but I remember listening to a record of the songs that was lying around.

See an outline of the play and Wikipedia's page on it.

I was in the 1973 revival of Salad Days as Tim, directed by Chris Coley. Uncle Zed got rewritten as a man in a ballon instead of a flying saucer. The song "Would you like to Fly in my beautiful Balloon - Up Up and away" was thus used.
I got to wear my own clothes for the part!
We should have borrowed girls for the lady's roles.

I was Uncle Zed in that production! I seem to recall that the basket of the ballon was one of the laundry baskets from the school. The next year I was the Artful Dodger in Oliver!
Happy times.
