Robert remembers John Dealey the butler, and so does Stephen Fry. I'm afraid I don't remember him myself (sigh).
The Stouts Hill Magazine reports that he came to Stouts Hill in February 1940 and worked there until his death in June 1975, apart from a short spell in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He was survived by his wife Sue, their children Colin and Valerie, and grandchildren. He was “a very sincere Christian and played a full and active part in the life of the Parish Church.”

I remember Dealey as we called him ,in his butling role . A quiet man who could be seen doing his pantry duties. He always was smartly dressed in black morning type trousers,and a starched white jacket. He reminded me of the faithful retainer.
Visitors at the front door of the mansion were ushered in by him.
I think he lived in the village.

John Dealey, a very friendly man, who had big feet, shoes incredibly shiny also massive hands I think we measured an 11 inch span once and big ears, not so remarkable for being big but for the fact that he could wiggle the lobes!
